Crumby
At a fine dining establishment, there is an act that the
wait staff perform that is called crumbing.
This happens between each course. You eat your appetizer, the busser clears your table, the
server comes and crumbs, your places are set for the next course. You eat your entrée, the busser clears
the table, the serve crumbs, the dessert menus come out. And so forth.
Crumbing is an interlude. You have finished one course, but have not yet begun
another. There is memory of what
once was, and the anticipation of what is to come. What engaged you previously has been cleared away, but your
future desire has not yet arrived.
Right now, my life is crumbed.
